Debbie Marquette began practicing yoga in 1997 and has been teaching yoga in Bowling Green since 2000; she established the yogaLOFT in January of 2007. Debbie received a 1,000 hour teacher’s certification from the Southern Institute of Yoga Instructors in Nashville, Tennessee and is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level. Debbie’s teaching methodology creatively blends detailed alignment and flowing movement with breath awareness, drawing from training in Iyengar, Ashtanga and Anusara yoga traditions. In her classes, Debbie challenges each individual to gradually work toward his or her own ideal pose to maximize strength building, flexibility, balance and stamina while encouraging peace and tranquility. Classes stay fresh and inspired due to Debbie’s personal commitment to daily practice and frequent travel to study with senior yoga instructors.

After a friend encouraged her to attend a class, Teresa quickly recognized yoga as a positive practice that would significantly enhance her life and began a journey through which she continues to grow and discover the beauty of wellbeing. Teresa loves to explore the various styles of Hatha yoga to uncover the grace, fluidity, and strength found in each approach. Through her teaching, she encourages others to listen to their body to discover yoga’s unique ability to transform and renew with each practice. Teresa completed her 200 hour teacher training at Evansville Yoga Center in April of 2010 and registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level. She has practiced as a registered nurse since 1980 and has spent the past 18 years teaching students interested in pursuing a career in the health care field.

Sheila Griffin, a yoga practitioner since 1999, began teaching yoga in 2002. After having completed her 200 hour teaching certification from Yoga East in Louisville, Kentucky, Sheila has remained committed to her training through independent study as well as regularly attending workshops and classes with senior yoga instructors. Sheila’s experience as a school teacher for 22 years, 15 of those in Special Education, is evident in her style of teaching and in her compassion for all of her students. Expressing her knowledge and love of yoga with zeal and humility, Sheila’s classes are inspiring and nurturing.

Susan Polk has been a student of yoga since 1998 and received her 200 hour certification from the Holy Cow Yoga Center in Charleston, SC in 2004. Before moving to Bowling Green in the fall of 2006, Susan taught yoga classes in the Atlanta area. Susan regularly attends workshops to continue her education. Susan’s teaching style shares her joyful, uplifting approach to practice, reflecting her absolute favorite thing in life: “to share yoga with fellow students to enhance good health and the balanced, peaceful feeling that comes from a regular practice.”

Erica Jacknin is a native of Northern Kentucky who has returned to her home state after living for many years in Pennsylvania. She began practicing yoga on a regular basis in 2002 and completed her 200 hour teaching certification in hatha yoga through Charm City Yoga in Baltimore, MD. She has attended workshops with Paul Grilley (yin yoga) and classes with teachers of anusara, ashtanga, and vinyasa yoga styles. She continues to read extensively in the science and metaphysics of yoga. Erica has experienced yoga to be a transformative path as the physical practice opened her awareness to mental and spiritual benefits as well. In her classes Erica strives to create a sense of sacred space on the mat as she guides students to mindful awareness of thoughts, emotions, breath and body. Erica is a professional art/play therapist, a skilled potter, and a dedicated meditator. Her interest in teaching children’s yoga is a natural blending of her years of experience as an expressive therapist with children and adolescents and her knowledge of yoga.

Baozhen “Maggie” Luo received her 200-hour teaching training through Kashi Atlanta urban yoga ashram in 2007. A native-born Chinese with a free spirit and open heart to explore the world, Maggie came to the United States five years ago to pursue her PhD degree in Sociology. Along her journey of academic study, she fell in love with yoga. For Maggie, yoga is a path, where she discovers the potentials of her body and mind, and constantly defines and redefines her own identity. Yoga is leading her to find passion, compassion, discipline, tolerance and vision for life. Maggie holds great respect and appreciation for her many wonderful teachers—Susan Wells, Jaya Devi Bhagavati, Mukunda Stiles and Todd Roderick. Determined to be a life-long student of yoga, Maggie is eager to share the benefits of yoga with friends and communities. Her classes focus on flows which range from gentle to vigorous. A young teacher full of energy and joy, her approach to yoga is fun, dynamic and creative.

Emma Franklin moved to Bowling Green in 2009 to pursue her two true passions in life: yoga and organic farming. Emma first began practicing yoga in 2003 and completed her 200 hour teaching certification at Kripalu Institute in Stockbridge, MA in 2005. “Kripalu is said to be a beautiful blend of all styles of yoga, including hatha (asana), karma (service), bhati (chanting, devotion, mantra), kundalini (energy), jnana (knowledge), and raja (meditation). Emma’s youthful, sunny and easy going spirit exemplifies this practice and is reflected in the deliberate pace, attention, and dedication she to brings into each class. In addition to teaching classes at yogaLOFT, Emma works at Au Naturel Farm in Smiths Grove, KY. In late spring and early fall, Emma also works at Gray Bear Yoga Lodge in Hohenwald, TN where she has had the pleasure of studying with Swami David Raye, Rod Stryker, Judith Lasater, and Bliss Wood.
